Rameshwaram is the major pilgrimage sight for the travelers from the worldwide. The temple is situated on the island of Rameshwaram and is also known as Banaras of South and is connected by the bridge from the mainland. The deity that constitutes here constitutes 12 jyotirlingas of India.

Pilgrimage to Rameshwaram

The pilgrimage to Rameshwaram is counted among the important junctions that is laid since the ancient times. The great Sri Ramanatha Temple is connected by the tradition with Kashi. The pilgrimage in Rameshwaram has always been a long time tradition in South India specially in Tamil Nadu and also in other South Indian states. There was many such kings who has celebrated their victory in Rameshwaram- Krishna III the Rashtrakuta in 10th century, after that Hoysala, Vishnuvardhana in 12th century.

Sacred Sights at Rameshwaram

Sethu: The sight is located at the distance of 5 km and it is believed that Lord Rama built the bridge to Sri Lanka from this temple. In Devipatanam, or in Navapashanam in the sea there are nine stones that are visible at the low tide. It is said that the stones where set up by Lord Sri Rama which represents the nine planets, the Navagrahas.

Gandamadhana Parvata: Outside the temple, there are also many such sights at the distance of 2.5 kilometers located on the hillock stands at Gandamadhana Parvata. In this Mandapa, there is the footprints of Lord Sri Rama which is enshrined. The located at the distance of 8 kilometers from the temple and is the beautiful temple of Sri Kodandarama where Vibhishana has crowned and joined Lord Rama.
